Utility Box Public Art Program

In this public art project, the figure from traffic signage is reconfigured into engaging and playful compositions. The artist Seyed Alavi worked collaboratively with Emery Secondary School students to develop these truly profound images. The bright yellow and black artworks are installed on 25 utility boxes throughout the city. In 2009, the Americans for the Arts, the nation's leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America named the utility box program as one of the forty best public art projects in the U.S. In 2009, the Americans for the Arts, the nation's leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America, named Sign of the Times one of the forty best public art projects in the U.S.
