Information on Measure C, the "Affordable Housing Bond", on the June 5th Ballot

Dear Neighbor,

As an Emeryville resident, you know that our community is a great place to live, do business, raise a family and retire. Our city services, arts programs, parks and cultural amenities allow our community to thrive as an urban center.

We are continually working to maintain the quality and affordability of life that we value here. As we evaluate our city’s needs and most pressing issues, the shortage of affordable housing presents a recurring issue.

Emeryville is growing and continuing to develop, and we want to make sure all residents are able to live in safe, decent, affordable homes and still have enough money for groceries and other basic necessities. On March 6th the City Council placed a $50 million affordable housing bond Measure C on the June 5, 2018 ballot.

If approved by 66.7% of Emeryville voters, Measure C would provide locally-controlled funding for safe and affordable housing for families, seniors, veterans, local artists, people with disabilities and people experiencing homelessness. Specifically, Measure C would:

  • Provide affordable local housing
  • Prevent displacement of vulnerable populations in Emeryville, including low and moderate-income households, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities
  • Provide permanent supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness
  • Help low and middle-income households purchase homes and stay in the community

By law, all funds from Measure C would stay local and could not be taken by the State. The use of funds would be subject to an independent oversight committee and annual audits would be required. Measure C would cost the typical property owner approximately $49 per $100,000 of assessed (not market) home value per year.
