The Planning and Building Department has the primary responsibility for administering the laws, regulations, and requirements that pertain to the physical development of the City.

The Department's functions combine to bring streamlined and accurate information and development review procedures to Emeryville citizens, businesses, and prospective developers. Specific tasks include:

  • Administering planning and building permit procedures
  • Providing public information
  • Performing building and code enforcement inspections
  • Maintaining complete public records on planning and building projects
  • Issuing necessary permits, certificates, approvals, and enforcement citations
