Persons at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 should stay home and away from crowded social spaces as much as possible. These recommendations will impact our facilities and programs.

All in-person programs and classes will be cancelled except meals on wheels, the Mercy Brown Bag program (for delivery only) and 8 To Go. All field trips are cancelled until further notice. The City is encouraging employees who feel unwell to stay home. Everyday actions help slow the spread and protect everyone. We all have a responsibility to protect our entire community. Here are simple actions we all need to make part of our routine:

  • Wash hands with soap and water (while singing happy birthday twice and washing for 20 seconds).
  • Cover your cough or sneeze.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Follow guidance from public health officials.
  • Call your health care provider first before seeking medical care.
  • Stay away from work, school, or other people if you become sick.
  • Adults and children ages 12 and older must wear a mask when in a public indoor space at all times. Masks must be worn outdoors when a minimum distance of 30 feet cannot me maintained.

The City takes its direction on health issues from the Alameda County Department of Public Health, who is posting regular updates at There is a lot of good information on prevention and protection on the CDC’s website at
