Ambassador Laundry Site Remediation
In 2004, the Emeryville Redevelopment Agency acquired the property located at 1136 36th Street in order to eliminate blight and redevelopment the site with affordable housing. In May 2005, the US Environmental Protection Agency awarded the Redevelopment Agency $400,000 in assessment grants to evaluate environmental conditions on the site.
The Redevelopment Agency uncovered an underground storage tank that was not previously on the site and removed this tank in 2006 and 2007. In addition, contaminated soil was removed. The Agency has been monitoring the groundwater since 2007, and is discussing with Alameda county the steps necessary to bring the site to closure.
