“The Emeryville Connection” Ribbon Cutting: The opening of the new cycle track section of the Bay Trail, from Powell Street to Shellmound Street on the north edge of Christie Avenue, along with Emeryville’s second dedicated bicycle turn signal at Shellmound Street and Christie Avenue. This new bike path connects southbound cyclists from Emeryville, Berkeley and Richmond to the Bay Bridge Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge and the Mandela Parkway, and connects northbound cyclists from Oakland and beyond to the Emeryville and Berkeley Marinas, and shorelines up to and through Richmond.

(there will be a Bike Energizer station in the same location from 7-9 am that day). The northwest corner of Christie Avenue and Shellmound Street, Emeryville, California, on the Christie Avenue Cycle Track section of the Bay Trail.

Mayor Dianne Martinez and Council Member Ruth Atkin (an Alameda County Transportation Commission Board member) will speak. The golden shears will be in use for a ceremonial cutting of the ribbon, and the City of Emeryville will be giving out 50 commemorative “The Emeryville Connection” water bottles.

Notable Milestones:

1. The Emeryville Connection and Golden Gate Fields trail improvements will allow cyclists to ride the Bay Trail uninterrupted from Richmond to San Leandro.
2. The project was the highest-ranked bicycle improvement by Bike East Bay when it was proposed for funding with Measure B and Vehicle Registration Fee Bicycle Improvement Funds in 2012; details here: https://evilleeye.com/news-commentary/development/christie-avebay-trail-gap-amongst-most-desired-bike-projects/.
3. Emeryville was first city to complete its bicycle and pedestrian project under the One Bay Area Grant (OBAG) cycle in Alameda County, with funding from the County’s Measure B and the Vehicle Registration Fees.
4. Emeryville joins Oakland and Berkeley in launching new bicycle infrastructure, regionally critical to cyclists’ safety and access, in celebration of the Annual Bike to Work Day in Alameda County

Partners:

1. Alameda County Transportation Commission funded the project with Measure B and Vehicle Registration funds under the One Bay Area grant program.
2. Association of Bay Area Governments - ABAG realigned the Bay Trail to incorporate the Cycle Track.
3. Bike East Bay polled members on which bike and pedestrian improvements they wanted ACTC to fund, and their members voted this project their top priority.
