September is Coastal Cleanup Month

This year, Coastal Cleanup is all month long and starts right at your door, because no matter where litter starts, it all flows to the Bay.

So choose a day (or several!) in September and go out by yourself, with your family or a small group of friends and protect your neighborhood and community by picking up litter close to home.  Streets, sidewalks, trails, and shorelines are all good choices.  Be sure to wear a mask and maintain social distance!

How to make the most of your cleanup:

• Download the Coastal Commission’s CleanSwell app to record what you pick up to be included in the state-wide count.  Record the most unusual item found for opportunities to win prizes. 
• Read these brief instructions on how to prepare for a safe DIY cleanup, how to handle specific litter items, and what to do after the cleanup.
• Share your cleanup photos!  Tag @cleanwaterprog on Instagram or @cleanwaterprogram on Facebook and use hashtags #CoastalCleanup and #ProtectYourHappyPlace.
